Psychology & Counselling

Acacia Well-Being offers face to face counselling at our practice in Coorparoo as well as telehealth options including secure video, phone and LiveChat.

During your counselling session, your therapist will provide you with a broad range of coping skills and strategies allowing you to foster resilience into the future. Your therapist will tailor the techniques they provide you with to your thinking style, beliefs, behavioural nature and feelings.

The amount of time you spend with your therapist can vary depending on your situation. Some situations may require several ongoing sessions to effectively work through the problem and experience positive change within yourself. Other situations can be resolved within a shorter amount of sessions or at less frequent intervals. Your therapist will discuss and work with you towards a treatment plan that suits you best and advocates for the best possible outcome.

Our individual counselling appointments usually take 50-60 minutes. In the first session, you will discuss your concerns and situation with the therapist who will get an understanding of how they can best support you. The therapist may ask you to fill out some assessment tools to get a more in depth understanding of how these situations are affecting you, your emotions and behaviour.

Unsure where to start?

We know that navigating mental health support is a complex and tricky area. Acacia Well-Being offers a complimentary 30-minute Mental Wellness Check-In with one of our experienced Psychologists or Social Workers.

This session is designed to assist you with navigating the various mental health supports available to you including where to start, accessing rebated sessions, finding the best fit clinician and type of therapies that suits your needs.

Having a Mental Wellness Check-In prior to a formal counselling session also allows you to ask the Psychologist or Social Worker any questions you may have in regard to therapy and have a greater understanding of what to expect in your first session.

We are continuing to provide all services with additional precautions in place to safeguard the health and well-being of our clients, staff and the community. We are pleased to offer appointments with our Counselling team, Dietitian and Exercise Physiologist either face-to-face (wearing appropriate face masks), or via telehealth with secure video and phone consultations available.
